2 Entries From Hong Kong Make It To World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 List

Scouring the world to keep up with its most amazing places to eat, is no easy task. Thanks to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, we certainly know of a fair few places. Making the cut this year, Hong Kong’s Wing and The Chairman bagged entries in the highly prestigious list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024.

Did you know that around 1,080 international critics, chefs, food writers, and restaurateurs, vote for this award every year? Announced at a ceremony in Las Vegas, the top two spots went to Barcelona’s Disfrutar and Asador Etxebarri in Basque Country. Table by Bruno Verjus in Paris placed third.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants: Hong Kong’s Chairman is a repeated winner

Hong Kong had a strong showing and ranked among the top thirties in the global gastronomic list. While The Chairman is a repeated winner, Wing, an innovative Cantonese food restaurant, made it to the list for the first time. The restaurants secured 26th and 20th spots on the list respectively.

Mr Dane Cheng, HKTB Executive Director, appplauded the city’s cuilinary scene saying, “This year, Hong Kong ranks alongside Bangkok and Tokyo as one of the Asian cities with highest number of entries to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024, which is a solid testament to Hong Kong’s status as a city of gastronomy.”

Around the world

Bangkok was the leading Asian city on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 list, with Gaggan (No.9), Suhring (No.23), Sorn (No.38), and Le Du (No.40) making the cut. Gaggan was also named Asia’s best restaurant. Singapore’s Odette took 24th spot. Additionally, Tokyo was represented by Sezanne (No.15), Florilege (No.21), and Den (No.32). Seoul’s only entry was Mingles (No.44), which also made its debut on the list.

Further afield, Maido (No.5) from Lima, Peru was named the best restaurant in South America, followed by the best restaurant in North America, Atomix (No.6). The best restaurant in the Middle East was Tresind Studio (No.13) in Dubai, and La Colombe (No.49) in Cape Town was the best restaurant in Africa.
