Creators of the beloved sitcom Will & Grace, Max Mutchnick and David Kohan are back in the game with a new Hulu series – Mid-Century Modern.
Being dubbed as a 2024 spin on the ’80s sitcom The Golden Girls, the show is set to be shot in Palm Springs and stars Fellow Travelers actor Matt Bomer, Modern Family star Nathan Lane, and Alice actor Linda Lavin.
The announcement of the multi-cam comedy has already hyped up The Golden Girls fans about the new Hulu show, craving more details. On that note, here’s everything we know so far about Mid-Century Modern.
What will be the plot of Hulu’s new show ‘Mid-Century Modern’?
As per the official synopsis, the series will follow three best friends — gay gentlemen of a certain age — who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in the sun-soaked Palm Springs where the wealthiest one lives with his mother and a naked Gen Z housekeeper.
Hulu states in a press release. “As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there’s always someone around to remind you it would be better if you got your neck done.”
Considering the show will likely be filmed entirely in Palm Springs, hopefully, the city’s famed 1960s architecture style and the stunning homes and buildings will be showcased throughout the series. And, of course, no Palm Springs-set content is ever complete without a few pool parties, a trip downtown or bickering about the summer heat.
The cast and characters of ‘Mid-Century Modern’
Divulging on the details about the cast of Mid-Century Modern, Variety reported that Nathan Lane will play Bunny Schneiderman, a successful businessman ready to retire and still looking for love, and Linda Lavin will play his mother, Sybil, who is like Sophia from The Golden Girls – wise but critical, caring but also snarky.
Matt Bomer stars as the pure-at-heart Jerry Frank, a former Mormon who left his marriage in his 20s after his wife outed him in front of the rest of the congregation. There’s no word yet on who will play the naked Gen Z housekeeper in the Hulu series.
The series is set to be written by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, James Burrows, director of the famed show Cheers will direct Mid-Century Modern and Murphy will executive produce it.
