The Monster Hunter series is renowned for its exhilarating monster battles and expansive environments. With Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom is set to take this franchise in an incredible new direction, promising to elevate the series to unprecedented heights.

Fans got their first look at Monster Hunter Wilds during the Game Awards 2023, and that short trailer left them eagerly anticipating its release. Since that last trailer, though, Capcom has been unusually silent about Monster Hunter Wilds, until the 2024 Summer Game Fest when they finally released a bunch of new details about it.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, players can expect a significant evolution in how ecosystems are represented. According to the developers, this game will take full advantage of the latest console hardware to bring its vibrant world to life.

The developer team has also answered several burning questions that every fan might have in their mind. So, why not take a look at everything we know about Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest game in the long-running action role-playing game franchise?

The ‘Monster Hunter’ series and its foray into a seamless open world

For the longest time, Monster Hunter games have required players to explore an area and look for monsters in it so they can hunt them. This exploration and hunting take them to different corners of a map, but this was not as smoothly as one would have liked.

Those maps were divided into several areas, and travelling to each new area meant sitting through a loading screen. This was changed in Monster Hunter World and Rise, where things were sped up, but players still had to sit through a load screen while travelling from the village area to the hunting grounds.

Monster Hunter Wilds has removed that restriction; players can now seamlessly travel from the village to the field, set up camps anywhere they want and even use those camps as fast travel points.

Exploring the stunning visuals of ‘Monster Hunter Wilds’

These games are set in massive areas with huge volcanic mountains and lush forests, where players get to see various kinds of biomes. Developing such large areas and maintaining visual fidelity at the top can be a challenge.

Capcom seems to have managed to achieve that feat. This will be the second game in the series to be developed on the RE Engine and the first to take full advantage of its dynamic toolset. Even today, when this game is months away from launch, it looks incredible.

Every character and every monster are designed in incredible detail, and so are the open-world environments we explore. It’s as if they have made up their minds about designing the best-looking game in the series.

Capcom introduces a new twist to the gameplay

Combat in Monster Hunter games has been straightforward; players spot the monster, attack, dodge, attack again, and that’s how the story goes. In Monster Hunter Rise, developers introduced two new things: a ridable Wyvern and a thing called a wirebug.

Wirebugs are small ropes that allow players to swing through the map for a limited time. On the other hand, the companion, ridable Wyvern, attacked the monster alongside the players.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, players will be introduced to dynamic playfields; they will be able to take advantage of the environment to fight, and sometimes they will be able to lure monsters into massive storms to make a fight easier for themselves. Besides that, they can now parry monster attacks and the biggest change of them all is bringing two weapons to the field.
