Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been in development for over a decade now. Announced in 2008, this sequel to the cult classic game, Beyond Good and Evil, has suffered numerous delays.
The original title, released in 2003, was praised for its innovative gameplay mechanics, rich story, and unique art style. Naturally, it quickly developed a dedicated fan base with high expectations for its sequel.
However, years of silence and sporadic updates have left many questioning whether the game will ever be completed.
It appears that, despite these doubts, Ubisoft has continued to work on this project. This confirmation came recently from the official account for the game when it was announced that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still in development.
Long-time fans who have gotten used to these announcements might be wondering how many times they will see them before the game actually drops. Let’s look at everything we know and find an answer to this question.
‘Beyond Good and Evil 2’: Its development status right now
It’s not surprising for a game to face numerous difficulties during its development. Every game faces hurdles at this stage, things are restructured, they are changed, and sometimes an almost complete game is scraped, too (just ask the developers of Agent).
However, Beyond Good and Evil 2 stands out when it comes to delays. This game was announced by Ubisoft back in 2008, and the CGI trailer that accompanied that announcement was on point. Showcasing Jade as she sits in peace by a crashed vehicle, it was a minimalistic trailer which made an impression, and fans were excited.
After that trailer, there was no update for more than 10 years. Then Ubisoft once again released a lengthy trailer in 2017 during E3. The game director, Michel Ancel, even revealed that this game will be a prequel.

Ambitious gameplay mechanics
Beyond Good and Evil 2’s gameplay mechanics and its world were ambitious. Developers revealed that the game will feature seamless travel from a planet to space and other planets without a loading screen.
This might sound trivial now, as we have games like No Man’s Sky already doing this, but back then it was nothing short of ambitious. The story was to be fixed, but its events will change depending on the player’s actions on various planets. It’s surprising how, with so many pieces in place, this game was never released.
So, why is it still not released?
In 2020, director Michel Ancel left Ubisoft amidst allegations of mismanagement and some other things, leaving the fate of the game unknown. Ubisoft, on the other hand, announced that Ancel was never directly involved with the game “for some time” when he left the company.
In 2022, Beyond Good and Evil 2 broke the record previously held by Duke Nukem Forever for the longest development for a video game. Shortly after that, in 2023, the game’s creative director, Emile Morel, sadly passed away, yet again leaving the fate of this title unknown.
Will Ubisoft ever reveal the ‘Beyond Good and Evil 2’ release date?
Yes, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in development, and we cannot wait for you to discover more about Jade’s past in the 20th Anniversary Edition! ☀️

At this point, everything’s just a mystery: who is working on it, how is the development going, and is the latest remaster announcement done to check the sequel’s potential for success?
These questions have not been answered, nor do we have a new trailer this time around. All fans got was a tweet from the official Beyond Good and Evil Twitter account suggesting the game is still in development. If Ubisoft decides to show it off once again and announces a release date, it might become one of the most anticipated games of 2025 or beyond, but will it?
