Astro Bot, the popular PlayStation mascot, is set to make a grand return on the PS5 with an exciting new platformer. Developed by Team Asobi, this title aims to leverage the advanced graphical capabilities of the PS5 to deliver an immersive and visually stunning experience.

This game is expected to follow the awesome adventures of Astro as he explores diverse and intricately designed worlds. Each environment is crafted to provide a unique challenge and experience.

From lush jungles to icy mountains and futuristic cities, the variety in the level design is set to keep players engaged and constantly wondering what comes next.

In addition to a captivating single-player campaign, Astro Bot will feature many collectables and hidden secrets, encouraging players to explore and replay the completed levels. For fans who cannot wait to dive into this vibrant adventure, here’s everything Sony has revealed about Astro Bot as of now.

‘Astro Bot’ promises to be a huge step up from its previous instalments

Team Asobi released the first-ever game in the Astro Bot franchise in 2018. This was a PS VR title called Rescue Mission. It was released to positive reviews and became a moderate success.

Then they released a game called Astro’s Playroom, a platformer that Sony bundled with PlayStation 5 consoles. While it was an incredible-looking, fun platformer, most saw it as a way for Sony to demonstrate the features of the PS5’s DualSense controller. Everything had some function in that game, from adaptive triggers to haptic feedback.

Astro’s Playroom became an instant hit thanks to its highly detailed visuals and immersive DualSense implementation. It is still regarded as one of the best games on PlayStation 5. Maybe that’s why Sony decided that Team Asobi should work on a sequel.

This sequel shown during the Summer Game Fest is named Astro Bot, and it’s the first full-scale game in the series. Previous games were short experiences designed around specific hardware. Astro Bot is a title that will not try to show off the PS5’s features but give gamers a full-fledged platforming experience

‘Astro Bot’ gameplay: Team Asobi’s efforts are showing

The first trailer for Astro Bot makes one thing clear: it might be a larger game than its previous instalments, but the PS5 controller will remain the centre of focus. It starts with Astro waking up on a beach and then riding a DualSense controller to some faraway land.

Fans can expect a similar implementation of all the controller’s features in this game, too. Adaptive triggers will add a tactile element to actions like pulling ropes or firing projectiles. The haptic feedback will allow players to feel the texture of the surface Astro walks on. These features make sure that a simple act of just running around is fun in this title.

In size, this game will be significantly larger than its predecessor. Whereas Astro’s Playroom had five major worlds to explore, its sequel has around 80 new levels, each having different themes. Players are going to have a blast exploring these levels and defeating giant bosses in this game.

Visuals and various cameos

In terms of graphics, Astro Bot looks largely like Astro’s Playroom, but this game will feature much more detailed character models, which was evident in those boss battles the developers showcased. It is expected to run at full 4K 60FPS, just like its predecessor.

Longtime fans of the PlayStation brand will also be able to spot bots dressed as characters like PaRappa the Rapper and God of War’s Kratos. It looks like Astro Bot is shaping up to be the game for every hardcore PlayStation fan out there. With this game, Sony seems to be trying to compete with Nintendo by creating a platforming mascot similar to the hero of the Super Mario franchise.
