Months after its announcement, FromSoftware released the much-awaited Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. This expansion will take players to the Shadow Realms, beyond the world of Lands Between, the setting of the original game.
Besides a whole new location, this DLC will bring 70 new weapons, 10 new shields, 39 new talismans, 14 new sorceries, 28 new incantations, 20 new spirit ashes, 25 new ashes of war, 30 new armour sets and numerous new consumables and craftables. In addition to these items, the developers have added at least 42 new original bosses to the game.
It sounds exciting as players spent all this time exploring Elden Ring’s Lands Between or playing other similar games, waiting for this expansion. Now, there’s a lot for them to uncover and achieve in this expansion. But there’s one question that most gamers have: how to access the Elden Ring DLC.
Accessing this new Elden Ring DLC can be quite a chore for anyone who has not explored the depths of the base game. Exploring some forbidden locations is required. A detailed guide on how to access the ‘Elden Ring’ DLC
1. Defeat Starscourge Radahn
One of the hardest bosses in Elden Ring is General Radahn; he is a legendary boss and is heralded as one of the mightiest living demigods in the Lands Between. He once fought Melania and got afflicted with Scarlet Rot, which drove him insane.
Defeating this boss is your first step towards accessing the Elden Ring DLC. He is not easy either; if you want to make quick work of him, bring some friends in for this fight and make sure your dodging game is on point.

2. Access Mohgwyn Palace via Consecrated Snowfield (option 1)
After defeating General Radahn, you need to collect both parts of the Haligtree Secret Medallion, which are found separately in Liurnia of the Lands and the Mountaintops of the Giants.
These medallions will allow you to access Consecrated Snowfield; once there, head west from the Inner Consecrated Snowfield site of grace and interact with the waygate.
3. Reach Mohgwyn Palace via White Mask Varre’s questline (option 2)
While the above option is a more straightforward way to get to Mohgwyn Palace, the other is to talk to White Mask Verre at the start of the game. He is found at the First Step site of grace.
After meeting him, just follow these steps:
- Defeat Godrick the Grafted and acquire his great rune.
- After defeating him, speak with Finger Reader Enia at the Roundtable Hold.
- Speak to White Mask Varre at his second location, “Rose Church,” and get the Festering Bloody Finger item from him.
- Use the Finger item to invade another player’s world at least three times. You do not have to defeat them; invading will get the job done. (This step requires an online connection.)
- Next, go back to Rose Church and speak to Varre one final time; he will then anoint you and reward you with the Lord of Blood’s Favor item.
- Finally, you will be asked to soak Lord of Blood’s Favor in the blood of a maiden. To do this, travel to the Church of Inhibition, which is north of Frenzied Flame Village, and interact with the corpse there.
- After completing all these steps, Varre will give you the Pureblood Knight’s Medal. Using this item will transport you to the steps of Mohgwyn Palace.

4. Defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood
After reaching Mohgwyn Palace, you need to defeat the Lord of Blood and use bleed weapons and Mohg’s Shackle to stun him in the first phase of the battle. Once he is defeated, interact with Miquella’s Cocoon, and you will be teleported to the Gravesite Plain area of the DLC.
‘Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’ gameplay and system requirements
Gameplay-wise Shadow of the Erdtree is not very different from the base game. But FromSoftware has added a lot of new things to make sure it remains a challenge for even the most seasoned Elden Ring players.
Players will need to collect Scadutree Fragments to increase their Scadutree Blessing. This will increase their attack power and defence in the DLC area. On the other hand, collecting Revered Spirit Ash Blessings will allow players to make Torrent and your Spirit Ash summons stronger.
As for the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree system requirements, they are pretty much the same as the base game. If your PC can run the original game, you should not have any issues running this expansion either.
