It took Motorola a few years to find its footing under Lenovo’s ownership but once they did, there has been no stopping for the erstwhile American tech giant. Instead of trying to beat Apple and Samsung at their own game, Motorola is going after the highly contested midrange segment with a desirable lineup of smartphones. Although loaded with segment-leading specifications and features, Motorola’s ace is the aggressive pricing that gives it an advantage over its Chinese rivals.

Consider the Motorola Edge 50 Pro as the latest example. For a midrange smartphone costing less than INR 40,000, Motorola has thrown in almost everything from its parts bin to take away potential customers from iQOO, Xiaomi and OnePlus. Other than a fast 50W wireless charging solution, this phone also comes with 125W wired charging, a dedicated telephoto camera for portraits and the latest Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset.

It’s not just the Edge 50 Pro. The rest of Motorola’s lineup has some cool smartphones to offer at various price brackets. Last year’s Razr 40 is now a striking deal for someone looking to get into the elite foldable phone category. Then there’s the extensive range of Moto G series devices that strike a good balance between features, specifications and price.

Choosing between them, however, may not be an easy task.

Hence, we have curated the list of the best Motorola phones you can buy in 2024, including some popular models announced in 2023.

Best Motorola phones to buy in 2024

Motorola Edge 50 Pro

Starts from: INR 31,999 (HKD 3,000 approx.)

Motorola has identified great potential in the midrange segments, and the Edge 50 Pro is the latest offering that could help it compete with the very best from Samsung, iQOO, Oppo, Xiaomi and OnePlus.

Based on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 platform, the Edge 50 Pro along with Motorola’s Hello UI based on Android 14 promises great performance. Motorola is also jumping on the Gen-AI bandwagon by borrowing some generative AI features from Google’s Pixel lineup.

The Edge 50 Pro also adheres to the trend of offering a curved edge display utilising an impressive 6.7-inch OLED panel with a max refresh rate of 144Hz and 1.5K pixel resolution. A versatile main camera setup consists of a 50-megapixel primary shooter, a 13-megapixel sensor that encompasses both ultrawide and macro lens functionalities and a 10-megapixel telephoto shooter with OIS that offers up to 30X digital zoom.

Although the phone offers a decent 4,500mAh capacity battery, the Edge 50 Pro makes up for it with its 125W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging solutions.

Motorola Razr 40 Ultra

Starts from: GBP 1,049 (HKD 10,326 approx.)

The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra may be over a year old but is ageing like fine wine. With an uber-cool design unlike any other flip-style foldable smartphone, this one is best suited for fashionistas.

The star feature of the Razr 40 Ultra is its cool-looking 3.6-inch OLED cover display that runs a miniaturised version of your popular apps and games. If you thought the display wrapping the dual main cameras was the highlight, wait till you experience its butter-smooth 144Hz refresh rate!

Flip open the phone and you have a large 6.9-inch OLED display that has an even faster refresh rate of 165Hz. The Razr 40 Ultra relies on the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which while being dated, has enough performance to let you handle demanding tasks and casual gaming. However, the 3,800mAh battery with 33W wired charging may not make for a practical all-day phone. The camera performance may also not be on par with other conventional smartphones in that price range.

Motorola Razr 40

Starts from: GBP 599 (HKD 5,897 approx.)

If you love flip-style smartphones but can’t afford the Razr 40 Ultra, the vanilla Razr 40 is a more economical alternative to consider.

It loses out on that massive cover display of the Ultra variant but Motorola still stuffs a small OLED strip accompanying the dual camera setup, which consists of a 64-megapixel main shooter and a 13-megapixel ultrawide sensor. This small cover display only shows notifications and time.

Other than the began leather finish, the Razr 40 also flaunts a 6.9-inch 144Hz OLED panel, a substantial 4,200mAh capacity battery with 30W wired charging and support for basic wireless charging. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip is quite dated for a midrange phone but that’s a small price to pay for getting into the exclusive club of foldable phones.

Motorola Edge 40 Neo

Starts from: GBP 299 (HKD 2,943 approx.)

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo is a great stepping point into the midrange category. This phone offers the thrills of a more premium category without putting a dent in your wallet.

For starters, the Edge 40 Neo flaunts a 6.5-inch 1080p OLED display with curved edges, Gorilla Glass 3 protection and 144Hz refresh rate. The rear flaunts a vegan leather panel that enhances the premium feel of the handset.

The phone is based on the entry-level MediaTek Dimensity 7030 chipset and is in line to get the Android 14 update. While the dual rear camera system featuring a 50-megapixel main sensor and a 13-megapixel ultrawide sensor isn’t tailored for shutterbugs, the 5,000mAh capacity battery with a 68W wired fast charging solution makes up for it.

Moto G84 5G

Starts from:  GBP 199 (HKD 1,959 approx.)

The Moto G84 5G is one of the most feature-loaded smartphones in the budget segment. Featuring the Snapdragon 695 chipset, you can expect decent performance with good 5G connectivity speeds. Although you get an older version of Android 13, the user experience is free from bloatware.

Some of the other highlights on the Moto G84 include a 6.5-inch pOLED 120Hz display, a 5,000mAh battery with a 30W wired fast charger, a 50-megapixel main rear camera with OIS, a vegan leather back panel and IP54 certification for water and dust ingress protection.

Moto G34 5G

Starts from: GBP 139 (HKD 1,368 approx.)

The Moto G34 5G comes across as a great way to start your journey into the world of smartphones. Unlike other entry-level smartphones that let in too many compromises to achieve an accessible price tag, the Moto G34 5G ensures that you get all the niceties of modern-day smartphone perks.

Things like a 120Hz HD+ LCD panel, a 50-megapixel main rear camera, a 5,000mAh battery with support for 18W charging, IP52 certification for water and dust ingress protection and the latest version of Android 14 OS are usually alien to most other smartphones in this price range.
