Netflix usually dictates the trends of the OTT streaming industry. Be it limiting one account to a household as a means of stopping password sharing or introducing mobile games as part of your subscription to improve user interaction, Netflix isn’t shy to try out new ideas. Hence, when a tweet regarding a Netflix feature called ‘Skip The Foreplay’, which could skip out steamy scenes went viral, most users didn’t even bat an eyelid before hailing it.

Soon, ‘Skip The Foreplay’ started dominating the discussions in online communities. This feature was said to cut out intimate scenes for comfortable family viewing. Fans of shows like Bridgerton and other rom-com content on the site seemed quite intrigued by the possibility, wondering how it would affect the overall viewing experience.

Does it sound like a great addition for those family movie nights where you would want to avoid awkward glances midway through your film or show? Hold on.

Soren Iverson, a web designer, creates memes on various features related to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram and more. On 7 April, he put up a casual post on X discussing how Netflix could filter adult content from all of its TV shows and movies.

He shared an edited screenshot of the Netflix app that included a fictional new feature called ‘Skip The Foreplay’.

The image accompanied some description of what the feature is and how it would work. ‘Skip The Foreplay’ would “make family movie night less awkward by deleting naughty scenes from this show”. While many people appreciated the humour, some of them struggled to understand the sarcasm and believed it to be a real thing.

‘Skip The Foreplay’ by Netflix: How are netizens reacting?

The response to this creative post on X was varied. Iverson had followed up with a late post expressing his surprise at how his joke blew up and went viral. The original post racked up 16 million reach and approximately 10,000 reposts.

Meanwhile, this is how the rest of X reacted to a fictional Netflix privacy feature.
