This time, the team of creatives will take inspiration from Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon for its new performance titled ‘Dragon Tales’. It will highlight the city’s visual identity through different symbols and images projected into the facade of the Prison Yard.

2. Pirata Group Re-Mix
Pirata Group’s Re-Mix Four Hands dinners will showcase the diversity of global flavours through a series of innovative menus co-created by the group’s chefs. The dinners will take place weekly with distinct collaborations. For this month, Pane e Latte and The Pizza Project will deliver an Italian comfort food experience. Meanwhile, Honjo and The Optimist will offer an array of craft dishes that blend Japanese and Spanish flavours.

Feel the love at Discovery Bay. Take a stroll along D’Deck Waterfront Promenade as it will be adorned with dazzling decorations. Tai Pak Beach will also be illuminated with heart patterns using over 5,000 LED candles for an extra romantic backdrop. Don’t forget to drop by the restaurants where roving musicians will serenade diners with heartfelt melodies during the evening. 4. Lunar New Year Lantern Festival
While there will be various Chinese New Year decorations across the city, don’t miss out on the displays from the Lunar New Year Lantern Festival. As part of the New Year celebrations, large-scale lanterns will light up the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza this year. The magnificent lantern, a green dragon to symbolise the Year of the Dragon, is made by paper crafting master Chan Yiu-wah. In addition to the displays, visitors can also have fun at the carnivals where stage performances and activities will take place.

This month, drop by the West Kowloon Cultural District’s Art Park for the WestK Nightscapes – Love & Lights campaign. It will feature a range of events and activities including neon light installations by local architect duo @streetsignhk. Furthermore, there will be pop-up speciality stalls that offer festive delicacies, beverages, and creative gifts on different designated dates. Then, participate in the special bouquet art and painting workshop or enjoy the special performance by the busking band, The Flame. 7. Chinese New Year Flower Market
A visit to a Chinese New Year flower market is simply a must as the holidays approach. This year, there will be 15 flower markets across the city. And for the first time since 2019, the markets will feature food, wet, and dry goods. The Victoria Park Flower Market will still be the biggest one and visitors can browse through the different types of flowers for good luck. In addition, there will also be toys, festive decorations, and other knick–knacks to buy.

8. Hong Kong Well-Wishing Festival
Making a wish at the legendary Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree is an age-old tradition during Chinese New Year. Attracting thousands each year, simply write your wishes on a placard and tie it to a mandarin. To ensure that your wish will come true, make sure to place it up high on the tree so that it won’t fall back down. Aside from making wishes, there are also various food vendors selling local snacks to try. Stay for the live performances to make the celebrations even more festive.

9. Swire Maestro Series: Jaap & Alexandre Kantorow I & II
Prior to Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra music director, Jaap van Zweden and pianist Alexandrw Kantorow’s tour in Singapore, they will be holding two concerts in Hong Kong this month. The programme will consist of the First Symphonies by Brahms and Mahler as well as the Ninth Symphony by Shostakovich. Meanwhile, pianist Kantorow will perform Rachmaninov’s Paganini Rhapsody and Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto.

10. Hong Kong Arts Festival
This year’s edition of the Hong Kong Arts Festival will feature more than 1,400 international and local artists in over 150 performances. The programme will span various genres including musicals, Chinese opera, dance, theatre and more. While there are plenty of highlights, don’t miss the festival’s opening act, Bayerische Staatsoper’s performance of Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss. Another must-see is the musical production of the animated film, I Am What I Am which will bring the Lingnan lion dance to the stage.

11. KidsFest
Don’t let its name fool you, this festival is also for those young at art or simply love theatre. KidsFest will make a return with four world-class theatre productions at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. The widely popular Dinosaur Zoo will make a comeback to the stage after seven years. Other productions are based on beloved children’s books such as I Believe in Unicorns and The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show.

12. Bad Times Records’ February events
Local records store Bad Times Records will be hosting a series of events in February. For instance, DJ and owner of New York cocktail bar 929 Haoran Chen will be doing a talk on how he created a space to celebrate Canto-pop and Mando-pop from the 1980s and beyond in New York City. There will also be a class on waacking, a street dance style that emerged during the 1970s. Book lovers shouldn’t miss out on Book Clubbing, a music book club curated and led by BTR’s co-founder Ani Phoebe. Unlike a traditional book club, this one is more of a “reading party” and there will be a fruitful discussion at the end.
