Hong Kong is jam-packed with art events for Art Week, but there’s one you can spot just by walking down the streets: HKwalls 2024. Hong Kong’s biggest street art festival is returning from March 23 to 31 just in time for its 11th anniversary.
This year’s edition will see the walls of Central and Western districts transformed by artists from Hong Kong and all over the world.
What to expect at HKwalls 2024?
There will be exciting new experiences including a returning collaboration with Sino Group. It will bring five digital animal art pieces to their facade along the Tsim Sha Tsui. In addition, there will also be a new team-up with The Emperor Group and Asiaray to showcase digital art pieces along their LED screens across Hong Kong.
Hong Kong artist Lousy as well as a collaboration between Kristopher Ho and Andy Lau on a digital wall will be part of the line-up. Be on the lookout for three talented young artists—Tom, Siukins, and Wing Mak—from the HKwalls Spring 2024 Youth Mentorship programme. They will each be painting a mural at the Hong Kong Observation Wheel, establishing themselves as artists to watch.
From the rest of the world, we’ll be welcoming HERA and Bond Truluv from Germany, Rabi from the USA, Michal Škapa, aka Tron from the Czech Republic, Aches from Ireland, Maye from France, and many more. For the full list of confirmed artists so far, you can check the official webpage.
Events beyond the streets
But that’s not all! There will also be a panel discussion with the participating artists as a continuation of the Conversations series. Panellists include Rabi, Pavel Mrkus, and key figures in the street art and cultural scenes. This includes guests from ALLCAPS, Netherlands’s street art festival. For the first time, HKwalls will also hold a fundraiser featuring a dazzling show by Bangkok burlesque crew, Madame Rouge. In between performances, there will be raffles for gifts and vouchers for experiences and dining, as well as an art auction. Later, local record label XXX will host an afterparty featuring a performance by overseas DJs.
The closing party will take place on March 31, co-hosted by local DJ collective Fader Crew. All of these events will take place on the 22nd floor of Soho House Hong Kong, which will also include an exhibition space showcasing fine art pieces with this year’s artists.
