Bad Sisters is an acclaimed TV series created by the trio of Brett Baer, Dave Finkel and Sharon Horgan. Apple TV+, the home of the series, recently confirmed, much to the delight of the fans, that the series will return for a season 2. Here is everything we know so far about Bad Sisters and its upcoming season 2.
This show is a dark comedy and just one of the many excellent Apple TV+ series that the OTT does not seem to promote enough. It is based on the Flemish TV miniseries Clan (2012) and centres on the lives of five Garvey sisters: Eva, Becka, Grace, Ursula and Bibi, played respectively by Sharon Horgan, Eve Hewson, Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle and Sarah Greene. The sisters share a loving bond but are quite distinct from each other. The show is set in Dublin, Ireland.
The story shifts between two timelines. One is before the death of John Paul (played by Claes Bang, an actor otherwise known for portraying the titular role in the 2020 Netflix vampire TV series, Dracula). Paul is Grace’s husband, and we see the sisters plotting his death as he is abusive and domineering towards his wife.
The other is after his death, in which Tom Claflin (played by Brian Gleeson), an insurance agent in charge of Paul’s insurance policy, is trying to prove that the sisters had something to do with his client’s untimely demise. Since settling the insured amount will bankrupt his business, he is ready to go to any lengths in order to avoid a payout.
Spoilers alert!
After a seasons worth of suspense and waiting, the shocking truth was finally revealed in the finale. As it turned out, it was Grace herself who murdered her husband after he revealed that he was not only abusive but also a rapist who took advantage of her sister Eva. With the help of Roger (Michael Smiley), she staged it to make Paul’s death look like an accident.
The series has received effusive praise from both critics and audiences for season 1, particularly for its sharp writing and performances. It scored a perfect 100 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that it pleased every single critic who reviewed it. It also received two BAFTA Television awards: one in the Best Drama Series category and the other in the Best Supporting Actress category (bestowed to Anne-Marie Duff).
Apple TV+ announced the season 2 on 19 August with a first-look image. It showed each of the Garvey sisters at what looks like a wedding. Grace has a white dress, and it could be a wedding gown. Is that her marriage? We know she has escaped the blame for John Paul’s death, and it appears she is now determined to start a new life and her sisters are firmly behind her.
Yet, while the occasion may seem happy at first glance, the expressions on the sisters’ faces are grim.
The official synopsis of the show’s second season reads, “Two years after the ‘accidental death’ of Grace’s abusive husband, the close-knit Garvey sisters may have moved on, but when past truths resurface, the ladies are thrust back into the spotlight, suspicions are at an all-time high, lies are told, secrets revealed and the sisters are forced to work out who they can trust.”
We can deduce from the first-look photo that at least the main cast members — Sharon Horgan, Eve Hewson, Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle and Sarah Greene — are coming back. While there has been no update either way, we expect supporting actors like Brian Gleeson and Daryl McCormack to return, too. Additionally, Fiona Shaw, Owen McDonnell, Thaddea Graham, Barry Ward and Peter Claffey are some of the new cast members in season 2.
Season 2 will premiere on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, 13 November 2024.
Unlike season 1, which had 10 episodes, the show’s season 2 will have eight episodes.
Sadly, no. There is no Bad Sisters season 2 trailer yet.

HBO’s ‘Big Little Lies’ (2017–2025) is the first show that comes to mind that is quite similar to ‘Bad Sisters’, though it is not as funny. ‘Killing Eve’ (2018–2022) and ‘The White Lotus’ (2021–) are also worthy alternatives, as they offer a similar kind of dark comedy.
While we are not told this in the show, fans have theorised that it could be short for “Bridget”.
