The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Watch Takes Design Cues From The Car Itself

The Jacob & Co. Bugatti watch partnership receives another prized “hyperwatch” to its lineup in the form of the Tourbillon.

Taking the same name as Bugatti’s latest hypercar to succeed the Chiron, the Tourbillon, this new Bugatti watch takes direct design cues from the car itself.

Two areas that were focused on in the design of the watch were the car’s front grille with side radiator inlets, and the Tourbillon’s dashboard reflected in the sub-dials. The Jacob & Co. Caliber JCAM55 movement itself is made from 557 components that contribute to the watch’s 30-second flying tourbillon at the far left, the main time dial with off-centered jumping retrograde hours and minute, and power reserve indicator for both the time and automaton.

Most impressive is the one-of-a-kind automaton that replicates the V16 present in the actual car. Made from a large block of sapphire, each of the 16 miniature cylinders comes to life and moves up and down when activated. When fully wound, this action can be repeated in 20 consecutive animations with each automaton sequence lasting 20 seconds.

The hefty watch is sized at 52mm x 44mm and is limited to 150 examples. Jacob & Co. has this one priced at US$340,000.
